Film Poster Analysis

The Fall is a thriller film. The haunting look from the female actress in the poster is undefined which gives the audience a sense of unknowing. The colours used in the poster are dim and bland, with the image in the central, top vetical; the audience is drew to the pose and facial expressions. The image and colours work together as they symbolise a hidden truth behind the characters. The title of the film poster THE FALL is in capital letters, the title looks like white cliffs, the audience can relate this possibly to what the film storyline is about. From the image within the film poster there is a clear indication that the male character is represented as the protector. The female character is placed in front of the male character, he is leaning into her from behind, showing his power over her and that they could be in a relationship of some kind i.e. boyfriend and girlfriend. The female character has the look of worry and despiration in her eyes; half of her face is lit in the light, this could symbolise that she is trying to escape something. The male character has half his face in the dark, shadowing his appearance; this could symbolise that he is trapped in the past and is afraid to lose her or that he will only be behind the girl when she needs him, like her very own shadow following everymove she makes. The characters are also postioned above a bridge which is leaving a town, this could help construct an imagery narrative of the women trying to escape the man and leave him and the town in which they live. Audiences could communicate with the characters in the film, women could be seen as weak, needy people in society and want a male figure to live life with them. Others would comment on the opposite view point that men become too overpowering and a break away is needed in order for women to live their own lives. It could be reversed that the men are dependant on the female for attention and too much need makes them suffocated and wanting to leave.

A2 Media Task

In my second year of media i will be producing a promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailor; together with a film magazine front cover, featuring the film and a poster for the film.

Teaser Trailer is a short trailer that consists of several shots from the film placed together in a non cronilogical order. This is to entice the audience to want to go and watch the film as mutilple storylines are conducted from it.

Magazine front cover and poster will try to sell my film to a wide audience and be appealing.
